.:BEAUTY TIP TUESDAY:. 5 Ways To Combat Dry Hair

As the season starts to change it can affect our hair in the worst way. No matter what you do, the moisture in your hair just seems to disappear into thin air. I’ve compiled 5 tips to help you combat dry hair.

1. Pre-Poo Before You Shampoo

Allow your favorite moisturizing conditioner to sit on your hair for a few hours before you shampoo. This will prep your hair for the shampooing process and help it stand up against your shampoo’s ability to strip your hair.

Tip: Pre-pooing also makes your hair a lot more manageable if its subject to a lot of tangles.

2. Get Your Hair In Good Condition

Your hair will love you if you start to condition your hair a lot more often. You can even co-wash your hair by using conditioner instead of shampoo to cleanse your hair. It’ll clean your hair just as well as shampoo and won’t be as harsh. Be sure to also find a great deep conditioner that you can apply to your hair at least once a week.

Tip: Use cool water on your final rinse to help seal the cuticles of your hair. When your cuticles are properly sealed, your hair will retain moisture for a lot longer.

3. Sleep Like A Queen

Wrap your hair in a satin scarf every night. If you don’t like scarves, sleep on a satin pillowcase. The smoothness of the satin keeps your hair from tangling from all the friction that can be caused from your tossing and turning.

Tip: Satin Bonnets are a great option if you don’t prefer scarves. Wear around the house even when you’re lounging around.

4. Hairspray! It’s More Than A Movie

Avoid using products that are high in alcohol because they will sap your hair of moisture in an instant. Also avoid excessive use of a hair dryer, flat irons or other heating agents. If you must use a hair dryer choose the lowest setting and apply an anti-frizz serum to the hair before using.

Tip: Wrap a t-shirt around your hair after shampooing and conditioning. It’s creates less friction than rubbing hair dry with a towel which can tangle and break hair. The key is to keep the cuticles sealed not broken or damaged.

5. Eat Right, Drink Right

As you probably already guessed, your hair needs to be moisturized from the inside out. Make sure you’re getting all your proper nutrients from your daily meals. Make it an effort to increase your intake of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which are highly beneficial for healthy hair. Also incorporate vitamins A and E into your diet as well. Be sure to also drink 6 – 8 glasses of water so that you can stay hydrated. Avoid drinking a lot of alcohol and caffeine because they dehydrate the body which can lead to dry, limp hair.

Tip: A quick search on your favorite search engine can provide you with a list of foods high in omega 3 and 6 and vitamins A and E. Start somewhere and increase your intake along the way. Be sure to consult with your physician about your diet if you experience any changes in your moods, energy levels, etc.

I hope these tips will prove to be beneficial to you. Don’t let dry hair keep you from enjoying the Fall season.
